Carolina & Western Photo Gallery
The
Aberdeen, Carolina & Western Railway operates
freight service on two former lines of the
original Norfolk Southern intersecting at Star,
NC. The Aberdeen, NC to Star line, 34 miles, was
operated by ACWR predecessor Aberdeen & Briar
Patch from 1982 until 1987, when the railroad's
assets were acquired by the ACWR. The Charlotte,
NC to Gulf line, 104 miles, was leased from NS in
1989. The ACWR connects with CSX at Aberdeen,
Norfolk Southern at Charlotte and Gulf, the
Atlantic & Western at Gulf, and Winston-Salem
Southbound at Norwood, NC.
