Sandersville
Railroad Gallery
The
Sandersville Railroad operates from a connection
with Norfolk Southern at Tennille, GA to Kaolin,
9.1 miles. The chief item of freight is kaolin, a
white clay used in the manufacture of paper
products, ceramics, paints, rubber tires, cement,
roofing shingles, electrical insulation, and
stomach remedies. Sitting on the world's largest
belt of kaolin, the road moves approximately
36,000 cars of freight each year. The road also
ships chemicals, forest-related products, mostly
wood chips and lumber, and general commodities.
