Former Atlanta & West
Point Ormewood depot during January 2001. The
depot was the first on the A&WP Belt Line
south of Hulsey Yard. Before the
rails were pulled up north of the Williams
Brothers facility just south of I-20, the station
saw trains #208 (Montgomery, AL to Hulsey Yard),
#211 (Hulsey to Montgomery counterpart to #208);
local #21, based at Hulsey Yard; and the College
Park and Ormewood switchers. The Ormewood
switcher worked the A&WP Belt Line south to
the road's connection with the Central of Georgia
at Oakland Junction. Ormewood would also see
Hulsey-bound autoracks from the L&N -
clearance problems at Atlanta Underground forced
the L&N to move cars south to Oakland
Junction then up the belt Line to Hulsey. To the
left of the photo and up a steep grade was a
connection with the Georgia Railroad at Hulsey
Yard.
The
depot is located in the Ormewood Community of
Atlanta, at the corner of Memorial Drive and the
Glenwood Memorial Connector, formerly Railroad
Avenue. It is currently occupied by a
manufacturing company. Added 3/30/2001. Station
and A&WP history courtesy of GW Deason.
