Railfan Safety

Do Not Trespass. Railroad right-of-way and much of the adjacent land is private property. Do not enter private property without obtaining prior permission.

Personal Safety. Rail lines in Atlanta, like other large cities, operate through industrial and commercial areas away from heavily traveled streets. Use common sense to maintain your personal safety. Be aware of your surroundings, keep your vehicle in sight, travel with other railfans when possible, and leave most areas well before dark.

Be a good citizen. Stay out of the way and be friendly. If you are asked to leave, be courteous and do so immediately. Failure to do so could result in a visit by the local police and get that prime train viewing location closed.

Visit Operation Lifesaver for more information about railfan safety.
